Blackberry Mobile PhonesThe Blackberry wireless device started life as a two way pager. Developed by Canadian company RIM, it was in 2002 that the first BlackBerry smartphone was released in a format that we would recognise today, a device capable of supporting push email, internet browsing, messaging and of course telephony.
Aimed primarily at the business market, BlackBerry mobile phones are slowly starting to appeal to a wider audience of users, primarily because of services such as BlackBerry messenger, and the increasing reliance on email for communication by handset owners outside the business community.
The BlackBerry operating system is little changed from the earliest handsets, which can often mean the less technically savvy user can find themselves lost in a sea of complicated menu systems. However, once this problem has been overcome, BlackBerry phones often prove to be amongst the most reliable and well built devices on the market.
As a business focussed device, it is not uncommon to find that BlackBerry devices often lack when it comes to the latest in multimedia features. So, although the latest phones may include a camera, or music player, they are of average quality at best. Where the BlackBerry device really comes into its own is in the realm of messaging. Almost every BlackBerry device incorporates a full QWERTY keyboard, which are ideally designed to allow messages to be composed on the move using the 'thumbing' technique.
The impact of BlackBerry mobiles on the corporate market cannot be underestimated, with the product as responsible as anything else for freeing employees from their desks and their PC's. Being able to access email on the move, practically anytime, practically anywhere, has given office working in particular a whole new dimension, with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server meaning email is pushed to the handset and arrives almost instantaneously with the arrival on the desktop.
In recent times BlackBerry have realised the huge potential of their devices in the consumer market and are starting to release devices that have a broader appeal, such as the more compactly designed BlackBerry Pearl and the all touch screen BlackBerry Storm. We can expect to see more consumer focussed Blackberry handsets arriving in the coming months.
