HTC Mobile PhonesManufacturer HTC have been active in the mobile phone market since 1997, but it is only in recent times that the name of HTC has become well known within the industry to consumers.
Originally HTC (High Tech Computer Corporation) was strictly an out sourcing company, an original design manufacturer. Based in Taiwan, HTC have always been at the forefront of supplying Windows Mobile devices, and very often supported mobile networks by producing branded products.
The early days saw HTC phones on all four of the major networks in the UK, with MDA devices on T-Mobile, XDA devices on O2, SPV range on Orange, and some re-badged devices also turning up in the Vodafone business range, the most popular of these being the V1615. Vodafone also sold handsets under the Qtek name, a HTC subsidiary.
These mobile phones were very popular, yet consumers would also try and purchase the original product, without network branding, which led to HTC mobile phones starting to sell in high numbers also. HTC saw a place in the market, and have started to promote handsets under their own name in recent years, whilst still providing networks with branded products.
HTC have released some of the most popular handsets in recent times. The HTC Touch is one example, proving that with a nice UI such as the Touch Flo interface, even Windows Mobile handsets could look good, be well designed, and easy to operate. The HTC Touch Diamond is another of HTC's best phones, but it appears that it is a move into the Open Handset Alliance that will really kick things off for HTC.
The first HTC handsets released, operating on the Android software which is mainly supported by Google, was the HTC Dream, which T-Mobile branded in the UK as the G1. This phone has sold in high numbers, and the popularity of these HTC mobiles persuaded Vodafone to take the next Android handset and make it their own exclusive. That handset is the HTC Magic, unofficially dubbed the G2.
The Android devices have cemented HTC's status as one of the top mobile manufacturers, yet they still work with and produce some fine Windows Mobile devices. As well as producing the recent Xperia X1 for Sony Ericsson, and the HTC Touch HD, HTC also have the HTC Touch Diamond 2 and the HTC Pro 2 lined up. It is thanks to devices such as these that HTC have earned their place amongst the best in mobile phone production.
