Sony Ericsson Mobile PhonesA collaboration between top Swedish mobile phone manufacturer Ericsson and leading Japanese electronics manufacturer Sony was always destined to bring the world of mobile communication technology the very best of each company.
Since 2001 Sony Ericsson have consistently brought innovative products to the market; using the strong Sony brand names such as Cybershot and Walkman, the Sony Ericsson brand has brought forth many ground breaking camera phones and high quality music focussed handsets.
Innovation has always been at the heart of the development of Sony Ericsson phones, and the company is well suited at responding the multitudes of requirements of the end user. By combining leading technology with recognised branding Sony Ericsson are renowned for developing well featured handsets that have a huge appeal across the whole spectrum of users.
One of the first handsets released by Sony Ericsson, the T68i, was the first handset that had a colour screen. This popular handset laid the groundwork for Sony Ericsson to push on and take control of the mobile handset market. Disappointingly, they were unable to take this on, and a host of disappointing mid to low range phones led to Sony Ericsson losing second place in the market, to their current position of fifth based on handset sales worldwide.
What has saved the Sony Ericsson mobiles from complete anonymity are the handsets marketed under the Sony brand names of Walkman and Cybershot. Sony Ericsson has consistently delivered the goods with these products; the first Walkman branded phone, the W800 set the benchmark for all music focussed devices, and since then the Walkman brand of handsets have sold in high numbers, with the W810, W850, W880 and W890 taking on the brand and evolving it into the pre-eminent music focussed mobile phone.
The other popular Sony Ericsson mobile phones stable are the Cybershot devices. The Sony Ericsson K800i pretty much defined the quality of the Cybershot brand; sporting auto focus, and equipped with a true Xenon flash, it was the first handset that could truly be called a camera phone. Since then the Cybershot range has grown to include the first 8.0 megapixel camera in the Cybershot line-up, the Sony Ericsson C905.
The future for Sony Ericsson is a little uncertain, but as in so many things the way to understand the future is to look to the past. If Sony Ericsson recognises the successes they have had in the past and builds on them, then there is no reason why Sony Ericsson phones cannot regain their past status within the industry.
